Student Opportunities
Our Committees
WUPP is organized into five committees, each tackling a distinct dimension of public policy work — from advising real clients to building community and sustaining the organization itself.
Policy Consulting
Real-world policy solutions for real clients
The Policy Consulting Committee is WUPP's flagship practice. Members are matched with government agencies, nonprofits, and civic organizations to deliver research-driven policy recommendations on issues ranging from healthcare access to urban infrastructure.
Consultants work in small, focused teams guided by experienced project leads. The process mirrors professional consulting — structured discovery, stakeholder interviews, data analysis, and a polished final deliverable — giving members hands-on experience that translates directly to careers in government, think tanks, and the private sector.
Each semester brings new clients and new policy challenges, ensuring no two engagements look alike.
External Affairs
Connecting WUPP to the wider policy world
External Affairs manages WUPP's relationships with the broader policy ecosystem — on campus, across Penn, and beyond. The committee drives the Speaker Series, coordinates the annual Washington D.C. career trek, and builds partnerships with government offices, think tanks, and peer organizations at other universities.
Members develop a sharp sense for institutional networking: crafting outreach, managing correspondence with senior professionals, and ensuring WUPP events feature voices that genuinely expand members' understanding of policymaking in practice.
If you want to be the bridge between WUPP and the wider world, External Affairs is where to be.
Internal Affairs
The engine that keeps WUPP running
Internal Affairs is responsible for the health of WUPP as an organization. The committee oversees member onboarding and integration, organizes community-building events, manages the annual recruitment cycle, and maintains the governing documents and operational systems that keep the club functioning smoothly.
IA members gain broad operational experience — coordinating logistics, running structured processes, and ensuring that every new member feels genuinely welcomed into the WUPP community from day one.
The committee also administers member feedback mechanisms and advocates for member interests to the executive board.
Marketing
Telling WUPP's story to the Penn community
The Marketing Committee shapes how WUPP presents itself — to prospective members, potential clients, campus partners, and the public. The committee manages WUPP's social media presence, produces visual content and event materials, and crafts the messaging that defines the organization's identity.
Members with interests in design, copywriting, digital strategy, and brand management will find meaningful work here. Marketing collaborates closely with every other committee, ensuring that WUPP's events are well-publicized and its consulting work is represented with the professionalism it deserves.
Follow WUPP on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook to see the committee's work in action.
Finance
Sustaining the mission through sound stewardship
The Finance Committee manages WUPP's budget, sponsor relationships, and financial reporting. The committee is responsible for securing the funding that enables the Speaker Series, the D.C. trek, the Policy Summit, and every other WUPP initiative — ensuring the organization's ambitions are matched by its resources.
Members gain practical experience in nonprofit financial management: preparing budget proposals, cultivating sponsor relationships, processing reimbursements, and maintaining transparent records for the executive board and membership. Wharton students interested in applying quantitative skills to an organizational mission will find Finance a natural fit.
Finance also leads WUPP's efforts to build a sustainable sponsorship pipeline with firms and foundations that share the organization's commitment to public service.
